An incredible 40% of vehicles fail their MOT the first time of asking. Here are some top tips to help you prepare your car to pass its MOT.
1. Lights
Turn on the headlights, fog lights,
indicators and hazards and you’ll soon see whether they’re working. To check
the brake lights, you’ll need someone to stand behind you while you depress the
pedal.
2. Tyre Tread Depth
You should be checking these regularly as
tyres with low treads have limited grip. Tread depth below 1.6mm is illegal.
3. Tyre Condition
Also, check the sidewall of your tyres for
cracks, cuts or bulges. If you find any damage, take your vehicle to a tyre
specialist to have it checked professionally. At Kingz Kustomz we supply and
fit car tyres in Leicester.
4. Windscreen
Damage bigger than 10mm in the swept area
or 40mm in the rest of the windscreen means it needs replacing. Smaller damage
might be repairable.
5. Wipers and Washers
Make sure your wipers work and are in good
condition. Top up your screen wash too.
6. Brakes
If your brakes are no longer working
effectively or make odd noises - or if your vehicle pulls to the side when you
apply pressure to the brakes, have them inspected straight away.
7. Seat Belts
All seat belts in your vehicle must work
and be in good condition. Tug each belt to make sure it is performing properly.
8. Registration Plates
Registration plates at the front and rear
must be in good condition, readable and a legal font.
9. Mirrors
Wing mirrors and the rear-view mirror must
provide a clear, unobstructed view.
